3 Men’s Magazines This Interior Design Blogger Reads

November 17, 2011 by smartygirl Leave a Comment

My mission to learn more about decor for men, started with Chicago Tribune Reporter Adam Verwymeren’s October article titled, “Top 10 Bachelor Pad Mistakes.” He listed lack of proper lighting as the number one sin. My area of expertise is home decor lighting and my first area of interest is men’s home decor. I recommend Apartment Therapy’s house tour of Benjamin Cottrell’s apartment. Cottrell’s inspiration is high-end luxury hotels! His choice of a Z Gallery brown leather tufted bed is tasteful and masculine. I also visit AskMen.com for Nick Clarke’s hotel bar reviews. I made it a homework assignment to study the lighting and decor of the top 10 bars in Dubai, Shanghai and Sydney.

I stopped visiting NylonMagforGuys and Debonair because those sites were skimpy on information that Details and Men’s Health provide. Such as? Who are French furniture’s newest stars? 5.5 Designers, Cedric Ragot, Matthieu Lehanneur and Noe Duchaufour-Lawrance. Which Manhattan shop has the best red peach vanilla tea? You can buy Jacques Doassans’s custom-blended rooibos, rose hip and licorice root beverage for $14.90 for 18 tea pouches.

Who is a new voice in menswear in Hong Kong? Arnold Wong of ColoniaGoods.co. Wong calls style icon Guido Wongolini the cure for the Abercrombie pandemic. How did Marc Jacobs sculpt himself into 5% body fat? Daily gym sessions lasting 2.5 hours and swearing off sugar, caffeine and dairy.

What’s the color for fall and winter? Gold. Gold messenger bags, gold cardigans and gold watches.

I created a lens on Squidoo about the basics of proper lighting for bachelor pads. In future posts, I will do a round up of the five best bedroom lighting fixtures for men.

Filed Under: bachelor pads, interior design, men's decor, men's fashion, men's lifestyle, men's shopping

How to Light a Kid’s Bedroom When He or She is Bullied at School

By smartygirl on October 21, 2011

According to Nicole Gordon Levine of Beautystat.com, 48% of young adults age 17-22 experience or witness bullying at school or at work. Levine approves of Secret deodorant’s campaign, “Mean Stinks!” I reflected upon this and reviewed a lesson plan that I created in October 2002. My ninth graders were given the scenario, “What if you […]
